University of Toyama hosted a delegation from Andhra Pradesh, India
University of Toyama (UT) hosted 7 undergraduate students, a professor from Andhra University, and Secretary of Higher Education, Andhra Pradesh (AP) Government from the state of AP, India at Aluminum Research Center and Institute of Natural Medicine on October 25, 2024.
This program was held as part of Sakura Science Program that Toyama Prefecture applied for and was selected as a host organization, which aims to invite talented students from universities in AP.
In the morning, the delegation visited Aluminum Research Center (ARC) where Prof. Toshiya Shibayanagi, Director of ARC, gave an opening address and an overview of ARC, which was subsequently followed by a tour of ARC’s facilities.
After that, a special presentation was given by one of ARC’s main collaborative partners, Sankyo Tateyama Inc. This was made possible by the cooperation from Mr. Satoru Hanaki, Executive Director, Vice President of Sankyo Material Company, Ms. Yuka Makino, Assistant Chief, Global Business Dept of Sankyo Tateyama Inc., and prof. Toshihiro Takai, a member of the joint research courses established between ARC and Sankyo Tateyama Inc.
In the afternoon of the day, the delegation visited Institute of Natural Medicine. After an introduction to the institute by Prof. Yoshihiro Hayakawa, Director of Institute of Natural Medicine, they had a tour at Museum of Materia Medica.
Additionally, there was a get-together held at Toyama prefectural office earlier on October 23, 2024, and three faculty members of UT (Distinguished Research Prof. Ishwar Pahar, Center Initiative for Training International Researchers (CITIR), Prof. Geetha Mohan, Global Research Centre for Advanced Sustainability Science (GRASS), Associate Prof. Chakraborty Shamik, GRASS and a staff member of International Affairs Division attended. After presentations by Mr. Gaur Saurabh, Secretary of Higher Education, AP Government and Prof. Kasibhatla Rama Sudha, Andhra University, they exchanged opinions in a friendly atmosphere.
It is highly expected that the international exchange between UT and universities and research institutions in AP will be developed by this visit.
