The Delegation of the European Union to Japan paid an Outreach Visit to University of Toyama
On June 20, Dr. Gediminas Ramanauskas, First Counsellor and Head of Science, Innovation, Digital, and Other EU Policies Section of The Delegation of the European Union to Japan, Dr. Tom Kuczynski, Science and Technology Advisor of Science, and Mr. Naomichi Yamada, National Contact Point for Horizon Europe, paid an outreach visit to University of Toyama (UT).
The purpose of this visit was to promote international joint research through Horizon Europe, which had been launched in 2021.
At the beginning of the meeting, President Saito introduced UT’s prominent research on aluminum and natural medicine, emphasizing the necessity for further international collaboration. Then, Vice President Sakai, Distinguished Research Prof. Kadowaki of Institute of Natural Medicine, Prof. Matsuda of School of Sustainable Design, and Assoc. Prof. Yang of School of Engineering introduced their own cutting-edge research at UT. Additionally, Assoc. Prof. Hatada of School of Science shared his experience in Horizon Europe.
Thereafter Dr. Gediminas Ramanauskas, Dr. Tom Kuczynski, and Mr. Naomichi Yamada outlined Horizon Europe and explained the advantages for Japanese researchers to participate in the program, which led to a lively exchange of opinions.
After the meeting, the delegation visited Museum of Materia Medica of UT and learned its activities under the guidance of Dr. Hayakawa, Director of Institute of Natural Medicine.
It is expected that this visit will lead to further development of academic exchange in relation to the EU.
