Let’s Study Arts and Culture in a Historic City

Dean of the School of Art and Design
Kazuhiro Oki
Takaoka, where the Faculty of Arts and Culture is located, is an ideal environment for studying arts and culture. It is home to two national treasure buildings, Zuiryu-ji Temple and Shoko-ji Temple, as well as the national historic site of Takaoka Castle Ruins. Additionally, it has industries such as casting and lacquerware that have continued since the early Edo period. On the other hand, with the remarkable advancement of digital technology, our lives are about to change significantly. Even in fields that have been dominated by skilled craftsmen, advanced manufacturing technologies equipped with AI are expected to emerge one after another. To thrive in the upcoming new society (Society 5.0) while coexisting with AI, it is important to excel in creativity and communication skills, and studying arts and culture is one effective option.
In the historic city of Takaoka, why not hone your flexible thinking and rich creativity to adapt to the rapidly changing society by learning in collaboration with the local community while experiencing various traditional cultures and works? We look forward to meeting you at the Takaoka Campus.
